  • Lot of confusion regarding the IIT-JEE 2013 exam eligibility criteria.  JEE mains 2013 board introduced new eligibility criteria for 2013 exams. After a clash between the IIT’s committee and Union Minister Kapil Sibal, finally good news comes for students. The good news is not about the pattern of the IIT- JEE entrance exam but about the quick decision taken by the IIT’s committee.

    IIT-JEE 2013 exam eligibility criteria

A new eligibility criterion is introduced for IIT-JEE entrance exam which will going to be held in academic year, 2013. A new formula come to picture according to which class XII marks are taken in consideration with JEE scores to count the final result.

Despite of clash between Union Minister Kapil Sibal and IIT council, still IIT Council manages to take a stern decision. The directors of various IIT’s reported a compromise formula under which only top 20 percent students of each state that are belonging to each educational board are allowed to give the mains entrance exam.

The class XII marks decides whether you are eligible for the test or not? In order to be eligible for the IIT-JEE entrance exam 2013, you have to be among the top 20 percent students of your state else your mission to IIT-JEE will be at stake?

What else required for getting entry in IIT JEE entrance exam? The 20 percent top students of each state will be selected to appear for the mains entrance exam. The council of IIT directors including the chairman of each institute called a meeting to decide, when IIT-JEE entrance exam 2013 will going to take place?

Only top 20 percent students are eligible for IIT JEE entrance. It does not mean that IIT entrance exam is based on class XII marks only but students have to score high in mains exam too. The mains exam is taken by the CBSE. The results of mains exam and class XII percentage are integrated to decide whether you are selected for advanced entrance or not?

IIT- JEE eligible test will consist of two exams- main test and advanced test; both of them will take place on separate days. The first test is conducted by the CBSE and second test is expected to take place one month after the first test and conducted by the IIT’s.

Only top 1.5 lakh students passing the first exam are carried for the next entrance exam. Finally, we can say that each test has its own importance. The CBSE class XII result, mains test result and advanced test result decides your future in IIT colleges.

The meeting of the IIT directors and chairmen are successful because earlier some IIT’s shown clash with common entrance exam but now all IIT’s come to same conclusion and sorted out all the doubts. There is still doubt for other engineering colleges whether colleges go with same route as followed by the IIT-JEE or followed by different route.

A suitable time gap between the mains and the advanced tests will be provided so that the results of mains test are available before the advanced exam. According to me, this step of IIT council increases the level of complexity for students; students have to appear for two exams after cracking the top 20 percent criteria of class XII. It looks that new IIT-JEE entrance exam procedure increase the pressure for those who are dreamt of getting Admission to IIT-JEE.

I hope that above information will help students to understand the eligibility criteria of IIT JEE Entrance exam.

I've 84.4% in the boards, i have cleared the IIT cutoff and got a rank, but that rank wont fetch me anything it is 17k.
I want to give the exam again, with thorough preparation.Am i eligible?
Will my board marks b compared with the students who gave the exam this year or with the next year's students?
Will the board %age mean anything thing more than eligibility?i mean does thi have any weightage in getting good rank?

    chirag sachdeva said...

    samphysicst,

Top 20 percent means only those students for eligible for IIT-JEE 2013, who are among top 20 percent students from their respective state.

Suppose, you are CBSE student then you must be among the top 20 percent students of CBSE for your respective state. If you are not fulfilling this criteria then you are not eligible for IIT-JEE. Now (IIT-JEE and AIEEE) is known with the new name ISEET 2013.

    Rajeshmane,

According to IIT-JEE new compromise formula, Students must be among the top 20 percent score in class XII.

If your class 12th score is among the top 20 percent students of your state then you are eligible for the IIT-JEE exam 2013 but after looking your percentage, I donot think you are among top 20 percent.

I am not sure whether 2012 or 2013 score/percentage is valid for you?, I will surely write complete explanation article for drop out students.

If you have any other doubt about any topic then also you can leave your message below. As said above that we are happy to serve you.

    Ak_amazing,

You got a good percentage but still I am not sure will you be eligible for IIT-JEE 2013 or not? I cannot predict, what will going to happen in future. If your percentage is among Top 20 percent students of your state then you are eligible for IIT-JEE else not?

If you would like to give the IIT-JEE 2013 exam again then you need to wait for the official notification of the Government. The official document is yet to come. I know you are anxious to know to which year percentage is valid for you 2012 or 2013?

Donot worry keep in touch with me or mail me at chiragsachdeva.24@gmail.com. I will surely clarify your problem after the official notification.

Best of luck for your career.

I was hoping that that IITs will maintain their standard and royalty but i guess it all went out of the window during their last meeting. On one side sibbal talks about giving less pressure to students and here he increased it manyfolds. Moreover what was wrong with the previous criteria for selection into IITs, if the issue is for importance of board exams how many IItian have low marks in boards.

    harry said...

students who passed 12th in 2011 have one chance left at aieee, they should be allowed in jee 2013, but will they be?If not, then 12th pass in 2012 having one chance left at iit jee should not be allowed too. If yes, then how can it be , one exam, partial eligibility(only for jee mains)? Moreover, with IITs going back to their pre-2006 pattern where they allowed 3 attempts they should not have much problems with it either?? sir what are your views on this??

    chirag sachdeva said...

    harry,

The 2012 pass out students are eligible for the IIT-JEE 2013 exam but I am not sure which year percentage is compared with 2013 class XII results, whether 2012 or 2013?

After the official notification of the Government of India, picture will be much clear. The purpose of class XII weightage is keep students close to class XII. According to the CBSE, students of class XI and XII are not focusing on the concept and just going for entrance exams coaching.

The standard and Quality of Education lacks because of one sided focus of students but now new compromise formula will stick students with class XII as well as entrance exams.

I know it is difficult pattern for the students. They have to appear for the three exams but no compromise with the Quality of Education.

If you still having any doubt then let me know.

    harry said...

ok, but what about 2011 12th passouts who have their third chance at aieee?will they be considered eligible for jee 2013??

    chirag sachdeva said...

    harry,

If 2011 pass outs are among the top 20 percent students then they are eligible for both AIEEE and IIT-JEE 2013 but do not which year percentage is compared. Either it was 2011,2012 or 2013?

Keep in touch with me. Once notification comes then I will definitely write complete explanation about it.

    chirag sachdeva said...

    Maddy,

The 12th percentage criteria is only for IIT-JEE 2013 entrance exam and nothing to do with AIEEE exam and UPTU exam. You can get admission in UPTU on basis of rank you got in the entrance exam and not on basis of 12th percentage. you need to achieve minimum criteria marks for AIEEE and UPTU and your percentage score is showing is achieving the same.

If you have any doubt then let me know.

I have appeared for the 2012 cbse board exams. And got 78% aggregate! many of my friends told me that by giving the improvement exams for this year for any one or two subjects which could fetch me at least 80% or higher will make me eligible for iit advance test ie the level 2 test. Being a dropper and studying for the whole new year really needs too much patience and am really working very hard so that I can make through this time very easily! Can you plz help me by clearing my doubt about the improvement concept and is that result valid combined with my previous years marks??? really I need your immediate help!

    chirag sachdeva said...

    PRANAY SAHA,

It is good that you are appearing again in IIT-JEE 2013 exams. You need to match the 2012 year cut-off marks of various boards. Yes, you are right that last year CBSE cut-off are around 77.8 percent. You need to have more marks than last year cut-off but still it is not sure whether you will admission in IIT-JEE 2013 exams.

For the IIT Kanpur, you are eligible and as far as other IIT colleges are concerned then confirmation is yet to come.

I have given the cut-off marks of various boards in my below link. check the below link-

Oh I am sorry I just made a mistake I got 76% aggregate! i just made a mistake while writing! can you tell me now what should I do.

    chirag sachdeva said...

    Pranay Saha,

If you are fully committed to IIT-JEE 2013 exams then attempt the exam else take admission in some AIEEE college. Your percentage is still under doubt and I cannot predict, will you get admission with this percentage.

You are only eligible for IIT Kanpur. It is my advice to take admission in some other college, if you are not prepared. If you are sure that you can crack the IIT-JEE 2013 mains and advance exam then go for IIT-JEE 2013 exams.

    Pranay Saha said...

Thanks for the information! But I would like to mention that this year i am totally getting prepared to take on the challenge. I would just request you to plz post the full and final answer to my queries as soon as you get to know. Thanks

Can you please tell me what will be the criteria for getting admission in architecture colleges like iit roorkee, spa and all in 2013?

    chirag sachdeva said...

    Anuskha,

You must be top 20 percent students of your state and must pass the mains exam. The final merit will be made on the basis of rank of advance exam following that students must be among top 20 students.

    Anushka Swarup said...

Yes but till this year aieee conducted a separate exam for architecture stream.
So won't that be happening in 2013 also? some separate exam for barch?

    chirag sachdeva said...

    Anuska,

The exam pattern has been changed from 2013. A new pattern has been implemented by the IIT council and Human Ministry.

    Anushka Swarup said...

I know that. There will be iseet now, but that's for engineering.
What i am asking is whether or not the ministry has given some separate pattern for barch exam?

    chirag sachdeva said...

    Anushka,

According to IIT-JEE 2013 official notifications which come till now, doesnot specify about the B.Arch and engineering courses. It only put stress on IIT-JEE 2013 exam pattern rather to put stress on various courses like engineering, B.Arch etc.

In order to be eligible for IIT-JEE 2013 exams, yoy must be top 20 percent students of your board. Keep visiting the examsexpert for getting further updates on IIT-JEE 2013 exams. Gud Luck for your future

Some say I can appear for it. I wont appear for JEE or ISEET exam. I wanted pcm 60% for doing marine eng. course as nautical science and marine eng. eligibilty criteria is pcm60%. Please help me Sir.

    chirag sachdeva said...

    Sumit,

Yes, you can do it but one board is regular and another board is open. You need to do it from CBSE/ State board or NIOS.

NIOS board is must and admissions for the NIOS board will close in few days. I guess, Only 5-6 days left for the admission.

NIOS is open board where attendance is not required but you cannot do from regular board schools.

After the IIT-JEE 2013 advance exam, The IIT team will review class XII marks to verify whether you are among the top 20 percent students or not? then you will come to know about your year.

As heard from rumors that 2011 pass out students are eligible but official notification is yet to come. The 2012 batch students are eligible for IIT Kanpur and for rest IIT colleges, confirmation is yet to come.

    chirag sachdeva said...

    Sumit,

No, getting admission as a regular student on two boards is illegal. you can opt for one regular and one open, that means NIOS or state open board is mandatory and you have to make choice between CBSE and other regular state board.

Thank you sir, I am going for NIOS-2013 as I have already passed 12th from CBSE in 2011. Thanx a lot for your help. My Last question, is this combination legal? The above one which I have written.

    chirag sachdeva said...

    Sumit,

It is your wish to decide the combination. you have to study in the exams. If you go with NIOS board then you are not required to appear in the exams daily, only on practicals and final exams.

    good luck for your future.

    Aman Gowhar said...

Either my comment is not fully answered or i did not get you.....
...please explain it to me fully by considering me a lay man......

    chirag sachdeva said...

    Aman,

Suppose you passed class X in 2009 and you are showing them that you did class XII in 2012 but actually you did in 2011 and hide the 2011 certificates then a total of 3 years gap occur. IIT-JEE council review all the parameters before giving admissions to students, they might consider year gap as the main criteria or some other parameters too.

So, it is my advice to wait for the official guidelines and strictly follow the rules of the IIT Council else you will be the sufferer.

Am I eligible to sit for CBSE JEE Mains whose rank holders would be eligible for NITs? Leave apart JEE Advanced as it is especially targeted towards the admissions for the IITs. I have scored 78% in my 12th board exams.

    Avinash,

As far as I know then IIT-JEE has two attempts and AIEEE has three attempts. If you fall under above criteria then you are eligible.

The new marks will be considered valid for year 2013. Try your best to improve the chance of getting in IIT-JEE 2013 exams. If you have capability to pass the previous years marks then go for all subjects else go for limited subjects.

Sir what is 20 percentile cutoff for ISC board. Is this marks is respect to 2012 or 2013. I got 87.2% in ISC board

    chirag sachdeva said...

    ankur,

You have a very good marks in year 2012. The MHRD notification clearly stated that those who have less percntage can give the improvement exam 2013. It means 2012 percentage will be compared with 2013 percentage. If you have 87.2 percentage then your percentage is compared with 2013 students.

If you are among the top 20 percent of 2013 then you are eligible. I have a list of IIT-JEE cutoff, check the list. Although, it does not specify ISC marks but still you must read.

    IIT-JEE 2013 cut-off marks

You must give improvement exams in those subjects in which you have less marks. Good luck for your career.

    Hello all,

In respect of those students who passed their Board exam for the first time in 2012, the eligibility criteria for joining any of the IITs or ISM Dhanbad will be 60% marks in their 12th Board or equivalent (55% for SC/ST/PD candidates). For those candidates who appear in their Board exams for the first time in 2013, the eligibility criteria will remain ‘top 20 percentile of the successful candidates’ in their Boards, category-wise. This will be a one-time exception for JEE (Advanced) 2013 only.

For those students who passed their 12th Board exams in 2012 but are re-appearing in the 2013 Board exams with a view to improve their performance, 60% rule will apply if they use their 2012 Board exam results and ‘top 20 percentile’ rule will apply if they use their 2013 Board exam results. This too will be a one-time exception for JEE (Advanced) 2013 only.

    Hi

I appeared in Senior Secondary Exam (Class 12th) in the year 2011,my PCM aggregate was 54.66%, I wanted to join Merchant Navy through IMU (Indian Maritime University) but the minimum PCM aggregate required is 55%.

Now,I have missed a chance of appearing for CBSE improvement exam this year (2012),can I appear in NIOS (National Institute of open schooling)in 2013? I just need "1 more mark" in any of the PCM subject to reach an aggregate of 55% so I want to appear for 1 subject only, in theory. Will they (IMU) consider my marks of NIOS ?

The IMU batches start from August every year so I want to appear for "On Demand Examination" of NIOS,anytime before August 2013. Please guide me through,I don't have any other carrier option.

You can even contact to NIOS authorities. According to me, last date for NIOS is already passed. so, try some other boards.

    Hi,
Thanks for the reply. NIOS website says "On Demand Examination" takes place every month. I want to appear for 1 subject in the month of march,is that possible? And will Indian Maritime University consider those marks?

What are the other options I have in case this don't work?

    Sammy,

If you are perusing Class 12th then you are eligible for JEE mains( AIEEE) 2013 exam.

In order to be eligible for IIT-JEE 2013 exam, you must be among top 20 percent students and must be among top 1.5 lakh candidates in JEE mains 2013 exam.

    puru,

If you passed in 2012 then you need to get 60 percent marks in class 12th. If you will passed class 12th in 2013 then you must among top 20 percent from your state board.

    Aman Gowhar said...

I did not find such case there. Please tell me am i eligible for jee advance 2013 i want to start preparation .........

    Aman,

I rectify similar question- Below is the question and solution.

I appeared in JEE - 2011 and IIT JEE - 2012. Will I be eligible to write JEE (Advanced) - 2013?

Ans. No. You are not eligible to write JEE (Advanced) - 2013 even if you are one of the top 1,50,000 candidates (including all categories), who qualify with their respective category wise cut-off scores in JEE (Main) – 2013, and are eligible to write JEE (Advanced) – 2013. However, if you have appeared in IIT-JEE 2012 only subject to its conditions then you are eligible to write JEE (Advanced) – 2013.

If you are still in doubt then check the question 18 and 19 of the url given below-

    puru,

You must be among the top 20 percent in the class 12th exams. If you among the top 20 percent then you are eligible.

Jee MAin Rule says that droppers have to fill improvement in all exams if they want to improve their % , PROBLEM is I had already sent improvement exam way before rule came and had filled 4 subject(LOL), now 1 subject left is there any way to get through this problem

    Jaskaran said...

Sir had already sent improvement form before ISEET(JEE MAIN) rule came that u have to fill improvement in all 5 subject for consideration of improvement in your previous board exam and i had filled only 4 ……… IS their any way now to solve this problem as mine Board % is only 63…. PLZ Reply ASAP sir w8in

    chirag sachdeva said...

    Jaskaran,

You are still eligible for the JEE mains 2013 exams and it doesnot make any affect to JEE mains. If you filled in 4 subjects that means you got marksheet of 2013.

This will create problem for JEE advanced 2013 exam because you must be among top 20 percent from your state board. I do not have any special news for you. Stay updated with examsexpert website.

Sir, i have filled online application form for JEE MAINS 2013 ;i think i have made a mistake in 'Name of qualifying examination passed/appering'. This is my second attemp for jee, i have cleared my 12th in 2012 from Maharashtra State Board with 84.17%. My subjects were English, Physics, Chemistry, mathemetics and ELECTRONICS as well. So in online application form, which name had to be filled- ''i) The +2 level examination in the 10+2 pattern of examination of any recognized Central/State Board of Secondary Examination, such as Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi, and Council for Indian School Certificate Examination, New Delhi'' OR ''v) H.S.C. Vocational Examination'' I took the 1st option. Have i done it wrong ??? And if wrong, can i fill it again ????? I have NEITHER paid the fees and NOR sent the confirmation page. PLEASE GIVE YOUR ADVICE, sir please !!!!!!!

    pramod biradar,

You must write passed in the box and whatever you specified in the JEE mains 2013 exam application form is correct.
